About

Much like our three dimensional universe, the site's title unfolds in three resonant layers: Aeternum Praesens, Latin for the eternal present, anchoring the perpetual 'now'; Memories of the Future, a paradoxical remembrance of events yet to unfold; and Premonitions of the Past, prophetic glimpses of epochs long vanished, unwitnessed by any living eye. Fully rendered as Aeternum Praesens: Memories from the Future & Premonitions of the Past, this framework is densely woven - mythic in its mystery, arcane in its erudition, striving toward an all-encompassing resonance. The triad mirrors my enduring captivation with the esoteric, the otherworldly, the philosophically impenetrable, works laden with strata of meaning, while affirming a core tenet: time, and by extension space, is mere illusion. At quantum depths, across diverse spiritual cosmologies, and in conceptual abstraction, every possible permutation of existence erupts concurrently. Nothing is precluded. Herein opens a portal to behold excerpts from this surreal, synchronic torrent.

Octa Khan serves as my chosen alter ego for the literary pursuits related to the above. In the throes of creation, I often enter a fugue-like state, or a quasi-depersonalized condition - wherein I function merely as a conduit, sifting through cosmic waves and visions to retrieve and render whatever fragments I may capture. This is not the quotidian self who attends to bills and queues - that is Octa Khan.

The name's origins are deliberate: born on the 8th, I have long harbored a fascination with infinity. The lemniscate (∞) evokes the figure 8; "octa" derives from the Greek prefix for eight; and the full name comprises precisely eight letters. Paradoxically, each half mirrors this charged symbol, as does the whole. "Khan" here invokes the herald, not its historical tyrannies - positioning Octa Khan as a harbinger of eternity's tidings.

The monogram above? A compact fusion of every letter in "Octa Khan."
As for the enigmatic self-designation "phonometrician": Erik Satie likely coined it first, and I adopt it with admiration. It encompasses vast nuances. Given written language's inseparability from its phonetic essence - and my own deep ties to music - it suits profoundly. In essence, I measure and orchestrate the phonemes I gather. This captures my craft far more precisely.

The works found here, will essentially fall in one of the following three categories:

Ars Poetica - Here reside what convention recognizes as poems. The title's grandeur is intentional - it lends gravitas and signals that these works brim with layered meaning.

Sketches - Brief, self-contained fragments: too concise for formal classification, yet potent enough to deliver a resonant impact.

Shorts - Concise narratives in prose, short stories, distilled.

Also, because I couldn't find any better place to write this down, the image used as a banner on this site is not made by me. All image credit goes to Adam Burke "Nightjar". It is part of the artwork made for Wills Dissolve's Echoes.

In that same breath, I'd like to underline that wherever I feel inclined to, I will add some image(s) to augment a text, or give it some semblance of visual support. I will be crediting all respective creators to clarify that I only write and also in hopes that they get some extra exposure, alongside the idea of promoting art in general.

Lastly, I would note my tenure as a music journalist since late 2018. The bulk of my oeuvre resides on Everything is Noise, with selections also at Scene Point Blank as well as CVLTARTES. If for any reason you're curious of the type of tunes I interact with, you can see what I'm into in exhaustive detail on Last.fm and Bandcamp
